Minutes of Meeting of Weymouth Board of Commissioners

The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Village of Weymouth was held on Sep 13, 2021 in the meeting room at the Medical Centre with Commissioners Gaudett, Frizzell, Doucet and Mullen present. 

Meeting was called to order by the Chair at 7:10 pm. 

Meeting was then turned over to representatives from the Weymouth Fire Dept.  They were here to express concern over the dramatic increase in insurance premiums from $7,283 to $14,289.  A cursory review of the policy revealed coverage on a vehicle that they no longer own for $1,200. It was also noted that for the first time they had by changed for liability coverage.  As we were unable to answer specific questions they had on coverage it was agreed by the commissioners to give authorization to our insurance broker to discuss any terms of the coverage with the dept Treasurer.  Premiums has been paid in full by the village with dept invoice to be adjusted as advised by insurance broker.

The minutes of the meeting of August  2nd, 2021 were approved as presented on motion by Commissioner Frizzell and seconded by Commissioner Mullen

Business Arising out of the Minutes:

            -prospective purchaser of the old recording office has withdrawn his interest..

           

Correspondence: 

            -Letter from the Municipality advising of changes being made in Accessibility Committee. Once committee membership has been finalized, we will be requested to ratify same.

            -Letter from Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq outlining their services

            -Letter from NS Power with a bill for $1,647 for up grades to street light.  Commission Frizzell offered to confirm number of street light (88 billed)

                       

Financial Reports: An updated financial report was presented by Clerk Treasurer. Approved on motion by Commissioner Mullen, seconded by Commissioner Frizzell  

New Business:

  • - A new interest has arisen on a possible use for the old recording office for possible residential occupancy. Clerk to follow up.
  • - A second area a leakage was discovered in small office, Ag side and a further inspection of the former board room also revealed water damage.  After discussion is was decided to obtain quotations for the total replacement of the entire roof, eliminate the skylights in medical centre side. Funding to come from Medical Centre trust funds.  Chair to follow up
  • - Clerk also advised that the local Lions Club is spearheading a project to reactivate the bulk water supply outlet owned by the fire dept on the new road in an effort to reduce congestion on the main road pop plant site.  Enquires have been made to Dept of Environment on current regulations and what would have to be done to comply with same.  Clerk to follow up.

                       

            Commission meetings will continue to be held on the first Monday of the month unless otherwise advised. Next meeting will be Monday October 4th, 2021. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 on motion Commissioner Frizzell seconded by Commissioner Mullen
