Minutes of Meeting of Weymouth Board of Commissioners
The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Village of Weymouth was held on February 7th, 2022 in the meeting room at the Medical Centre with Commissioners Gaudett, Frizzell, and Mullen present.
Meeting was called to order by the Chair at 7:08 pm.
The minutes of the meeting of December 6th, 2021 were approved as presented on motion by Commissioner Mullen and seconded by Commissioner Frizzell. January’s meeting had been cancelled.
Business Arising out of the Minutes:
-WWDC’s Spark the Spirit Christmas Light project was reported to be a success. Fewer entries, but more voting.
-Refund of overpaid insurance premium has been received.
-Clerk has been in contact with one other village and has made request to Association of NS Villages with regard to ever increasing insurance premiums.
Correspondence:
.Follow up email from the Municipality requesting confirmation of the village tax rate for 2022.
-Email from up dating information on the Spark the Spirit light project.
-Up dated property assessments were received.
-Email from Fire Dept request early attention to insurance issue..
-Copy of letter from RBC announcing the closure of the Weymouth Branch.
Financial Reports: An updated financial report was presented by Clerk Treasurer. Approved on motion by Commissioner Frizzell seconded by Commissioner Mullen. Proposed budget for 2022-2023 was presented
New Business:
-With reference to the letter from the Municipality, following review of the proposed budget and after some discussion it was moved by Commissioner Frizzell, Seconded by Commissioner Mullen “that the village rate be increased from $0.29/$100 to $0.30/$100”. Motion carried. Clerk to advise the Municipality.
-Clerk to provide insurance up date in response to fire dept letter.
-Discussion ensued on the notice from RBC of the closing of the Weymouth Branch. The village wishes to go on record as being extremely disappointed in the bank’s decision to close after serving and profiting from the community for over 125 years.
Commission meetings will continue to be held on the first Monday of the month unless otherwise advised. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:08 on motion Commissioner Frizzell seconded by Commissioner Mullen
